Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu Smaraka Samithi, Chennai, and Chandurs’ family and friends will bestow the Smt. Malati Chandur Award on novelist and short story writer Polkampally Shanta Devi.
“Ms. Shanta Devi will receive the award from former adviser, Culture and Media Affairs to Telangana Government, K.V. Ramana Chary at a function to be held at Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao Kalamandapam in Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, on August 25,” said Member of the Kendriya Hindi Samithi Yarlagadda Lakshmiprasad, at a press conference here on Saturday.
Prolific novelist
Mr. Lakshmiprasad said Ms. Shanta Devi’s captivating writings evoke wide appreciation. One of the writers who has written maximum number of novels in Telangana, she has authored 64 novels and around 80 short stories. Some of her works have been translated into Kannada, Hindi and English. Her novel Chandipriya was made into a film and while another novel Pushyami inspired a TV serial.
Her writings have been a subject of research in Osmania and Kakatiya Universities, and she has received ‘Sahiti Puraskaram’ from the Telangana Government in 2015. Vice-Chancellor of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University S.V. Satyanarayana, writer and critic M. Sujatha Reddy and cine lyricist Bhuvanachandra would participate in the programme.
