Pune : The state government has decided to extend the distribution of monthly magazine Kishor that caters to the creative needs of teenage students to zilla parishad schools. Kishor is published by the Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production and Curriculum Research.
In publication for the past 39 years, the government has decided to extend the reach of Kishor to more students. In total, till now, around 53,585 schools under the zilla parishad have been receiving the magazine for their students, but the schools that were opened after 2001 were not included in the scheme.
Hence, the objective this year is to reach out to as many as 8,072 schools across the state, which were established post 2001. So far, the scheme has been extended to almost 2,000 schools.
Kendre Kiran Shamrao, executive editor, Kishore, said, “The objective of the book was to provide a good supplementary reading material to students in addition to the textbooks that they study in primary and secondary classes. Despite the increasing popularity of the magazine among teenagers over the years, many rural areas did not have the access. So, with this plan in place, we want to reach out to schools in the remotest rural areas of all the districts of the state. A total of 61,657 schools will now have this facility after the plan is executed.”
The state government will be spending Rs 9,32,560 for the implementation of its plan.
He added that in addition to schools, the magazine also has more than 10,000 independent monthly subscribers. In total, the aim of the state government is to distribute this literature to as many as 75,000 households.
