William Wordsworth is a well-loved poet who brought in the Romantic Age of poetry in English literature. He was Britain’s poet laureate from 1843 until his death. His poetry is still read, taught and loved in English curriculums across the world.
His home, called Dove Cottage is open to visitors and there’s even a museum that has letters, journals and artworks of his. His love for nature was apparent in his work and for that reason, the garden next to the cottage is maintained is it was when he resided there. For those who are fond of his work, visiting can be quite a treat.
Now The Wordsworth Trust has unveiled plans to further improve the experience. The cottage will be restored to be a more authentic recreation of how it would have been when the Wordsworths lived there. The museum will be expanded and new galleries and an introductory exhibition will be added.
They even plan to open up the wooded area around by promoting some walking trails; the poet would probably approve! He discovered the area while on a walking tour of the Lake District and moved there within months.
There are also plans to set up a new courtyard and a viewing station. There will also be a learning space who one can host pop-up events, exhibitions or workshops; students from schools and colleges; some evening events for adults and family activities at weekends and holidays.
Michael McGregor, the director of the Wordsworth Trust, said: “We are delighted to announce further plans for Reimagining Wordsworth in the lead of up to the national 250th anniversary celebrations. Wordsworth the poet was a revolutionary whose work and ideas are still relevant to our lives today. By taking a fresh new look at his work, the project will bring his story up to date, welcome old and new audiences – both locally and globally – and transform Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum into a dynamic destination for creativity, inspiration and enjoyment,” as reported by The Bookseller.
All these plans are due by April 2020, which wil be the 250th birth anniversary of William Wordsworth.
