9400789625 Shaik Mahammad Shareef, known as Vempalle Shareef, was born in Vempalle village in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh and is noted short-story writer. He got the Kendra Sahitya Academy Yuva Puraskar in 2012 for his first work ‘Jumma’. This book is available in English and Kannada now and recently the Karnataka government recognised this book as the best translated book and awarded him with the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Puraskar. His short-story collection ‘Mondi Cheyyi was published in the ‘India under 40’ brought out by the Kendra Sahitya Academy in 2015. His stories are based on the lives of the rural Andhra Muslims. ‘TopiJabbar’ and ‘Tiyyani Chaduvu’ are his other short-stories. Professionally, he has been a journalist for the past two decades, Shareef also dabbles as Radio Jockey.
