THEATRE FEST IN MEMORY OF DINESH THAKUR BEGINS

Bhopal | Wednesday, 05 September 2018 : A four-day theatre festival in the memory of Dinesh Thakur will be held in city from Wednesday. The festival is being organised by Vihaan Drama Works, Bhopal and Ank theatre troupe, Mumbai.

Dinesh Thakur Memorial Theatre Festival will be held in Shaheed Bhavan. The festival is being organised to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Dinesh Thakur’s theatre troupe Ank.

The four day event will begin with the play Totto Chan. On second day play ‘Saudagar’ will be staged. On Friday marking the third day play ‘Biviyon Ki Madarsa’ and the festival will be concluded with the play Hai Mera Dil.

On the inaugural occasion, Rajesh Kumar, CGM, State Bank of India, Bhopal Circle Satosh Choubey, Senior theatre Director, Bansi Kaul, Director of Madhya Pradesh School of Drama Sanjay Upadhyay, actor Alok Chatterjee and senior art critic Ajit Rai will be present.

On this occasion, the Souvenir Magazine created for the ceremony will be inaugurated in the presence of guests. After this, in the evening at 7.00 pm, the presentation of Vihan in the direction of Saurabh Anant, ‘Totto Chaan’ will be staged. On September 6, ‘Saudagar’ will be performed under the direction of Bansi Kaul. On September 7 and 8, Biviyon Ka Madarsa and Haye Mera Dil in the direction of Atul Mathur and Dinesh Thakur will be held respectively. Dinesh Thakur was a noted Indian theatre director, actor in theatre, television and Hindi film, where most notably he appeared as one of the leads in Rajnigandha 1974 and directed by Basu Chatterjee, which won both Filmfare Best Movie Award and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie. Dinesh Thakur was born in 1947 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. He was the founder-director of ANK productions, a Mumbai-based theatre company, established in 1976.

Though he mainly appeared as character roles in Hindi films, as a screenwriter and story writer, he is known for writing the story and screenplay of Ghar (1978), which won him the 1979 Filmfare Best Story Award.

He died on 20 September 2012 due to kidney failure.
