NAGPUR: Literature of a period must mirror its prevailing societal conditions and Kishor Sanap’s works depict just that, said Indrajeet Orake, member of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, on Saturday.

“Sanap’s works have always showcased society in its true crude form. He has shown rural women as strong and independent, the ones which can take on the world despite living in adverse financial conditions,” he said.

Orake also commented on literary works published today and said, “Writers and literatures deem readers to be engulfed in pink dreams. In reality, they want to read substantial material. The one which doesn’t romanticize reality and shows it as it is.”

Orake, along with professor of Marathi at CP Berar College Rajendra Naikwade were discussing on critic Sanap’s book ‘Samakaleen Samiksha Janiva aani Bhashya’ in a literary venture ‘Aavartan’, organized by Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh (VSS), Sitabuldi.

Sanap was the chief guest at the event while president of Wani unit of VSS Dilip Alone presided.

Talking about Sanap’s style of criticism, Orake said, “In almost all of his works, there is a very strong flavour of Gandhian and Ambedkar’s thought. He does not resort to negative criticism as he resonates with Gandhi’s thought process. Passion, compassion and empathy are the core qualities which reflect in his works.”

He said that the society needs more poets and critics like him which show a mirror to the people.

Naikwade said, “A believer in Gandhian philosophy, his works reflect simplicity and compassion. His essays, books and even critiques are well-researched and the knowledge is visible. We need such knowledgeable and research-oriented writers.”
