Kozhikode: Prominent writer N S Madhavan has been honoured with the Mathrubhumi Literature Award for 2018. He was selected for the award considering his great contributions to Malayalam stories and novels.
The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, certificate and memento designed by M V Devan. It will be presented to Madhavan at a function scheduled to be held in Kozhikode in the second week of January.
Madhavan was selected for the award by a committee presided over by M K Sanu and members K Jayakumar and Asha Menon, said Mathrubhumi managing director M P Veerendra Kumar and managing editor P V Chandran.
Born in Kochi, Madhavan marked his entry into Malayalam literature by winning a short story competition for college students organised by Mathrubhumi Vishu edition in 1970. His notable works include Higuita, Thiruth, Chulaimedile Savangal (Corpses of Chulaimedu), Pancha Kanyakakal (Five Virgins) and Lanthan Batheriyile Luthiniyakal (novel). He has been honoured with the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award and Odakkuzhal Award among others.
The committee observed that the award was a recognition to Madhavan, who is among the top writes, who made Malayalam story writing world class.
