Panaji, Dec 10 (PTI) : The curtains came down on the eighth edition of the Goa Art and Literature festival (GALF) 2017 today with a special programme in memory of Mumbai-based poet, Eunice de Souza.

Mumbai-based writer Jerry Pinto termed Eunice as the mistress of condensation and praised her ability to be economical with words.

“For instance, in one of her 48-word poems, Eunice ended by saying that it was too long,” Pinto recalled.

According to Pinto, Eunice was very proud and happy to be a teacher, though she was a very strict teacher.

“However, Eunice was much loved by her students,” Pinto added.

Goa-based writer Jugneeta Sudan recited some of Eunices poems and admired the late poets ability to confront taboo topics.

Vivek Menezes who introduced the late poet to the audience recalled Eunice de Souza?s aggressive and bold style of writing poetry and prose.

Earlier in the day, Archbishop of Goa, Rev Felipe Neri Ferrao released Teresa Albuquerque?s book, The Portuguese Impress.

GALF 2017 was organised by The International Centre Goa in association with Goa Writers, with support from the North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa.

Writers and artists from Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Singapore, the UK and USA, among other countries, took part in the festival. PTI RPS NRB
