President of the 93rd Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan will be nominated through consensus and not by election. The proposal was accepted by the Election Committee looking into the amendments to the constitution of the Mahamandal. This was announced by Dr Shripad Bhalchandra Joshi, President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal (ABMSM), during a press conference held at Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh (VSS) on Sunday.
A special meeting was held at VSS on June 30 during which the proposal was approved. According to the new amendment, now President of the Mahamandal will be nominated through consensus and not by election.

It may be noted that it all began with the opening of the Mahamandal’s office at VSS which had initiated the proposal and forwarded it to the Constitution amendment committee for its consideration. It took two years for the committee to reach a consensus. Also, it got the support of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, Pune.
The process will come into effect in 2019. This will be a historical decision coming after 91 years.

Dr Joshi stated that out of nine invited regions for hosting 92nd Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, Yawatmal and Wardha regions have been finalised for inspection. Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, Shahupuri Branch, Satara; Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh Branch, Amravati; VSS Washim, Sane Guruji Karmabhoomi Smarak Pratishthan, Amalner; Education Society Naigaon (Bazar), District Nanded, Kalyan Shiklshan Sanstha, Nagpur; Maharashtra Shikshan Mandal, Jabalpur; VSS Wardha Branch Dr VB Kolte Research Centre and Library and VSS Branch, Yavatmal have sent their acceptance.

Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal will be making a major announcement regarding the special policy with regards to Language, Literature and Culture.
Dr Joshi also informed that this was for the first time that a committee was formed to prepare a policy draft. The panel was formed in 2016 by Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh and it had two sittings. It is now that it has been decided to formulate a policy. The draft prepared will be sent to all units, affiliated organisations for their comments and additions, which will then be placed before the Mahamandal.

In order to include the institutions who want to be part of the Mahamandal and non members of the present body, a historical amendment to the constitution has been suggested in its annual general meeting held on Sunday. It is being done to widen the scope of ABMSM. As such the present structure of the constitution will be changed and new categories will be included, he said.

Dr Joshi added that a committee formed by the Mahamandal will tour Telangana, Karnatka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Goa, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to study the status of Marathi language, Marathi Literature and culture there and submit a proposal for next stage of development.
