2018 Man Booker longlist announced

The longlist for this year’s Man Booker Prize, Britain’s most prestigious literary award, has been just announced, and the list of 13 books have a refreshing new genre added: a graphic novel.

Nick Drnaso’s Sabrina has been called by author Zadie Smith “the best book — in any medium — I have read about our current moment.”

Toronto-based Sri Lankan diaspora author Michael Ondaantje has been longlisted for his latest book Warlight. Ondaatje had previously won the Man Booker Prize in 1992 and was also just awarded the Golden Man Booker Prize for his book The English Patient.

Another Canadian author, Esi Edugyan, has also made the longlist for her book Washington Black. She was on the 2011 Man Booker shortlist for the book Half-Blood Blues.

These books appear alongside Rachel Kushner’s The Mars Room, Sally Rooney’s Normal People, Belinda Bauer’s Snap, etc.

The six shotlisted books from the 13 in the longlist will be announced on Sptember 20 and the £50,000 prize winner will be announced on October 16, 2018.

10. The Overstory by Richard Powers
11. The Long Take by Robin Robertson
12. Normal People by Sally Rooney
13. From a Low and Quiet Sea by Donal Ryan
