MANGALURU: World Konkani Centre in association with department of Kannada and culture and Sahitya Akademi is organising two-day Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Samaroh at the centre in Shaktinagar from November 19. This is an annual literary event aimed at promotion and enriching of literary experiences in Konkani and feature talks, panel discussions and visual film. The event will culminate in an award ceremony for exemplary social service by Konkani people.
K Byrappa, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University will inaugurate the literary meet on November 19 under the theme – Writing for children today: revisioning the moods, modes, methods and media. Varun Sahni, VC, Goa University, N R Vishu Kumar, director, department of Kannada and culture, Tanaji Halarnkar, convener, advisory board for Konkani, Sahitya Akademi and Kiran Budkuley, dean, department of English, Goa University will be present.
N S Madhavan, renowned Malyalam writer will deliver the keynote address. Dilip Borkar, editor, Bimb, Konkani monthly will chair a session on writing for children – process from oral to print to publication via theatre. Geetha Shenoy, writer will chair a session on Konkani writing for children today. This will be followed by a discussion on writing for children in Konkani – new age challenges and available venues that Sadhana Kamath, writer will moderate.
M R Thampan, former director, State Language Institute, Thiruvananthapuram will deliver the memorial lecture on ‘J M Lobo Prabhu and Louella Lobo Prabhu’. Giselle D Mehta, writer and philanthropist will chair the session. Curtains will come down on day one with staging of Konkani yakshagana Sudhanva Kalaga by artists of Sumukh Kala Kendra, Shivamogga, Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of the Centre stated.
