Source : Times of India The Parliamentary Book Awards are launched by the Booksellers Association of UK and Ireland and the Publishers Association in 2016. Their aim is to celebrate the best of political writing and the long-standing link between politics, and books. The awards celebrate parliamentary writing across three categories: Best Memoir by a Parliamentarian; Best Non-Fiction by a Parliamentarian; and Best Political Book by a non-Parliamentarian.
One of the most notable features of this is that the books are voted for by parliamentarians.
How to stop
This year British parliamentarians voted How To Stop Brexit (And Make Britain Great Again) by Nick Clegg as the Best Non-Fiction. It won the secret ballot by only a narrow margin.
Best Book by a non-Parliamentarian was awarded to Jo Cox: More in Common . Jo Cox was an MP with the Labour Party who was murdered last year by fifty-two-year old Nazi, Thomas Mair, who shouted, “Britain first” as he attacked her. The book was written by Cox’s husband, Brendan Cox.
Britain’s longest-serving female Labour MP Harriet Harman‘s memoir A Woman’s Work won the award for Best Memoir by a Parliamentarian.
