Srinagar : With more young people showing their interest towards writing in the Valley, a two-day workshop on fiction was held by emerging writer Shahnaz Bashir here.
The workshop was organised by two young students Danish Maqbool from the Central University of Kashmir and Maroof Mir from the Islamia College of Science and Commerce. The event was sponsored by The Tribune.
“It was an opportunity to learn creative writing skills. The mentor was supportive and patient. These workshops should be a continuous affair as these opportunities are not available in Kashmir,” said a participant. The organisers said the idea of holding the workshop was to polish the skills of the young writers who want to use writing as a tool to tell the story.
“The idea came into our mind after we saw a lot of young people struggling to write. I think we all need a mentor to guide us. We will continue to hold such writing workshops in future because there is a lot of enthusiasm among young people towards writing and reading,” said Danish Maqbool.
Shahnaz Bashir is an assistant professor of Journalism at the Central University of Kashmir.
