To be held at Codissia Trade Fair Complex from July 20 to 29
The fourth edition of the Coimbatore Book Festival organised by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia ) and supported by The Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) will be held at Codissia Trade Fair Complex from July 20 to 29.
275 stalls
The festival with over 275 stalls will be inaugurated by T. Udayachandran, IAS, Secretary of School Education, in the presence of Sirpi. Balasubramaniam – Sahitya Akademi Awardee, R. Ramamurthy, president of Codissia, S. Soundarajan, president of the Book Festival, besides the organisers namely T. Balasundaram, president of Ilakkiya Koodal, E. K. Ponnusamy, president of Arivukkaeni, C.R. Elangovan and Kavingar Kavidasan.
The CBF 2017 had witnessed a footfall of 60,000 and the business turnover was to the tune of ₹ 2.5 crore. The organisers expect around one lakh people this year. Entry is free for visitors and the fair timings will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Regional languages
Books in various regional languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi and English will be available. Publishers from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Maharashtra will participate. Free buses will ply from Jenny Residency Club.
Contests
The finals of various events including elocution, essay and verse writing contests, conducted across different schools and colleges by Arivukkeni, will be held at the fair venue. Winners will get certificates and coupons to buy books.
Award
Writer S. Ramakrishnan will be honoured with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.
‘Pen Ezhuthu’, an event exclusively for women writers, will be held on July 21.
