Soumitra Chatterjee recently lent his voice for an audio album, Chithipatra, which has 1416 letters by
Rabindranath Tagore. One of the most prolific writers of the world, Tagore, the first non-European recipient of
Nobel Prize in literature, introduced letters as a form of literature. He wrote some 1416 letters addressed to his wife, daughters, niece associates and well wishers. These letters talk of his creative life, his hopes and disappointments. A record label has compiled the letters in a audio album, containing some 76 compact discs. The President of India, Ramnath Kovind, accepted the first volume of this album recently at
Rashtrapati Bhavan.
