Source : Times of India PANAJI: The state’s city and town libraries will soon offer readers the opportunity to browse books on their own devices, as the Goa state central library is preparing an app to enable digital access to their literature. “Any member who enters the library can browse content digitally,” said curator Carlos Fernandes. “The feature will be available in all ten city and town libraries in Goa.” The central library sees around 400 people visit it everyday just to browse its magazines and newspapers. These periodicals are set to be accessible on the library app, which will be activated on the user’s phone if the user is inside the library premises. While the reader would be able browse an unlimited number of books through the app, the privilege of access will only lie with library members, who will have to login with their library card number. A unique identification number will then be generated and sent to the user via SMS to complete the login, and acquire access. The app’s connectivity is designed in such a way that access to the platform is lost the moment the user leaves the library. Also, the app will utilize the data connection of the user’s device. In future, the central library may also have paid WiFi, wherein visitors will be able to avail of internet services at a nominal price. “This will be open to all irrespective of whether or not the user is a member,” Fernandes said.
