The annual Salem Book Fair 2018 brought up by Deiveegam got under way in the city on Saturday.
More than one lakh titles brought out by various publishing houses of southern states have been displayed in 45 stalls in the fair at the Deiveegam marriage hall at Fairlands in the city. The fair was the initiative of industrialist and bibliophile K. Kandasamy, proprietor of the Deiveegam marriage hall. He has been organising book festival twice a year for the last 18 years without any break with the objective of promoting reading habit among the common people, particularly the student community.
Famous publishing houses such as Kizhakku Pathippagam, Sixth Sense, Daily Thanthi, Vikatan and Nakkeeran have displayed books on different topics right from science and technology, engineering, law, medicine, computer science, religion, grammar, Tamil literature, general knowledge, novels and fiction.
According to Dr. Kandasamy, a discount ranging between 10 % is offered on all the purchases. Additional discount was being offered for students and educational institutions. The expo will be held till December 23.
