The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is a history play and tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1599. It is one of several plays written by Shakespeare based on true events from Roman history, which also include Coriolanus and Antony and Cleopatra.
Julius Caesar was a Roman politician and general who played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. He is also known as a notable author of Latin prose.
The play follows the rise and fall of Julius Ceaser. Charismatic military leader Julius Caesar returns to Rome in glory, having just defeated the sons of Pompey, a fellow member of the first Roman triumvirate. Caesar’s growing popularity inspires jealousy and fear amongst the Roman tribunes, and a conspiracy against Caesar takes shape, with Cassius at its head.
It is to be noted that earlier too, the students of MPSD have performed plays written by William Shakespeare. There were plays like A Mid Summer’s Night Dream, Hamlet and many more.
