Source : Times of India Simon & Schuster has acquired the rights for publishing Jackie Chan’s ‘candid’ memoir. Jennifer Bergstrom, senior V.P. and publisher, recently announced that Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster US, will publish Chan’s memoir Never Grow Up. Executive editor Jeremie Ruby-Strauss acquired US, open market, and audio rights from CAA. S&S UK will simultaneously publish and acquire the rights from Abner Stein on behalf of CAA, reads a report by The Bookseller. Talking about the book, Iain MacGregor, publishing director for non-fiction at S&S UK, said, “I have been a huge fan of Jackie Chan’s movies since the 1980s as having been turned on to Kung Fu by the late, great Bruce Lee, I wanted more. Simon & Schuster UK are thrilled to be publishing his memoir.” While Ruby-Strauss said, “Jackie Chan is a delightful author and eternally youthful soul—we pledge to Never Grow Up right alongside him.” In the memoir, martial arts artist Jackie Chan throws a light on his childhood and growing-up years at the China Drama Academy where he was enrolled at the age of six. He also shares about his struggles in Hong Kong and Hollywood, his numerous near-death experiences both on-and-off the film sets, and his personal life as a husband and father. Chan is also expected to open up about his youth in which “he spent accumulating possessions”; and on being appointed the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador recently. “I hope those who read my stories can come to learn that Jackie Chan is, after all, an ordinary man who had the courage and determination to do extraordinary things,” Chan said. Never Grow Up is expected to be out in November.
