Journalist Rahul Bedi’s book ‘The Last Word’ launched
Hoshiarpur, May 26 : The Hoshiarpur Literary Society hosted its debut event. A group of literati from the city came up with the idea of forming a society to promote and encourage literature, art and music. The event started with the launch of the journalist Rahul Bedi’s book- ‘The Last Word.
The book is an anthology of obituaries of 100 Indians who led unusual lives. In conversation with the author was the author and columnist Puneet Inder Kaur Sidhu and Khushwant Singh- The state Commissioner RTI. Rahul revealed that obituaries of important people are often written much before their death, so that they can be immediately sent for publishing after they have passed away. The society wrapped up the event with announcement of the results of the story writing competition held last month.
Ms Dolly Cheema (executive member) revealed that an enormous response was received from all age groups. The winner was a Class XII student of Gems Cambridge international school, Khushi Verma and the position of runner’s up was secured by Varun Kaushik, a Class XI student from the same school. People in the audience volunteered to be part of the society and signed the membership forms.
The core members of the society Sanna K Gupta, Amit Goyal, Dinesh Duggal, Harmala Ahluwalia, Nazam Riar, Dolly Cheema and Aan Ralhan were present on the ocassion.
The members said ‘The Literary Society’ endeavors to promote and encourage and literature, art, language and music in the district and would be hosting many more events like this in the near future.
