Dehradun | Friday, 10 August 2018 : The Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul inaugurated the Dehradun Literature Festival at Unison World School. Among others, acclaimed writer Ruskin Bond, noted personality Jaggi Vasudev and others were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Paul said that translations from English into Hindi and regional languages must be enhanced and vice-versa. He said that through translations, great works can reach a very large number of readers. He said that if Premchand’s works could be translated into English and other languages, they would reach readers all over the world. Writers and publishers should give more attention to children’s books, he said, while adding that reading habit was being reduced among children due to internet and electronic gadgets.
Appreciating the literature festival, he also referred to noted writers from the state including Gaura Pant Shivani, Shekhar Joshi, Shailesh Matiyani, Ruskin Bond, Allan Sealy and the great poet Sumitranandan Pant.
The Governor said that the role of writers was important in this era of social, cultural and economic changes. They preserve the cultural heritage and social values by their writing.
