Saadat Hasan Manto, the writer known for his incisive writing holding up a mirror to society, now comes to life in a play “Ek Mulaqat Manto Se” that will be staged at Stein Auditorium of India Habitat Centre this Saturday and Sunday.
Ashwath Bhatt, who showcased his mettle in Meghna Gulzar’s much talked about film “Raazi”, decodes the enigma and idiosyncrasies of Manto, in the guise of the famous writer. It will showcase Manto contemplating his journey, changing mindsets, family life and poetry.
Interestingly, this performance is based on articles penned by Manto. The play explores his life, the times he lived in and the social changes he witnessed during the Partition. Ashwath Bhatt as Manto will engage with the audience in person, trying to answer the biggest question “Why I write what I write”. To highlight the pathos of Manto’s life, Begum Akhtar’s iconic ghazals will be used in a couple of places.
