This was announced by Dr Shripad Bhalchandra Joshi, President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal (ABMSM), during a press conference held at Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh (VSS) on Sunday.
A special meeting was held at VSS on June 30 during which the proposal was approved. According to the new amendment, now President of the Mahamandal will be nominated through consensus and not by election.
It may be noted that it all began with the opening of the Mahamandal’s office at VSS which had initiated the proposal and forwarded it to the Constitution amendment committee for its consideration. It took two years for the committee to reach a consensus. Also, it got the support of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, Pune.
The process will come into effect in 2019. This will be a historical decision coming after 91 years.

It is now that it has been decided to formulate a policy. The draft prepared will be sent to all units, affiliated organisations for their comments and additions, which will then be placed before the Mahamandal.
In order to include the institutions who want to be part of the Mahamandal and non members of the present body, a historical amendment to the constitution has been suggested in its annual general meeting held on Sunday. It is being done to widen the scope of ABMSM. As such the present structure of the constitution will be changed and new categories will be included, he said.
