The 3-day third edition of Sahitya AajTak literary festival starts tomorrow and will highlight the importance of art and literature in today’s times.
Aaj Tak, India’s No. 1 Hindi news channel with over 25 crore viewers kicks off its third annual mega Hindi literature festival Sahitya Aaj-Tak tomorrow at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and last till Sunday.
A confluence of poetry, prose, music and drama, the festival is an initiative to highlight the importance of art and literature in today’s time. The festival will see the presence of literary stalwarts renowned for their works in Hindi, Urdu, English, Awadhi, Bhojpuri and Punjabi on one platform to express their views and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Celebrities attending this year include the legendary Wadali brothers, actor Annu Kapoor, writer Chetan Bhagat, poet Rahat Indori, actor and poet Piyush Mishra, screenwriter Prasoon Joshi and the renowned poet and writer Javed Akhtar.
Actors Deepti Naval and Shekhar Suman will talk about theatre while journalist Sagarika Ghose and Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha will share her wisdom on politics.
Manoj Tiwari
The Bhojpuri superstar and politician will highlight his singing side at the event as he started his career as a singer. In Bollywood he’s known for his song Jiye Ho Bihar Ke Lala from Gangs of Wasseypur.
The Wadali Brothers
With hits like Tu Mane Ya Na Dildara, Assa To Tenu Rab Manaya, the Sufi singers have left a deep impression on the audience. Although Pyare Lal Wadali is no longer part of the troupe, both Ustad Puran Chand and Lakhwinder Wadali carry on the tradition.
Ghalib In Delhi and Ek Mulaaqat
The two plays will also be held at the event. While Ghalib takes a satirical turn as the renowned poet returns to earth decades after his death to find a Delhi nothing like the one he left; Ek Mulaaqat shows the soul connect that poets Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam shared.
Ustad Rashid Khan
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi said Ustad Rashid Khan was the anchor of Hindustani singing in the future. And Khan saw to it that he set a high standard with hits such as Ae Ri Mai Ri, Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini, Allah Hi Reham and Aaoge Jab Tum Ho Sajana.
Javed Ali
The singer has gained popularity singing softer numbers such as Kehne Ko Jashne Bahara Hai, Kun Faya Kun and Arziyaan in Bollywood. He will open the event tomorrow with his Sufi songs.
